Sole gripThe sole design is the product of a lengthy research process conducted in our laboratories, combined with a special rubber formulation to optimise grip and traction. As requirements are not the same, we systematically search for the best compromise for use on muddy as well as dry terrain.

Buying tipsGet your child to try on both boots, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the heel seating and the front of the foot on a downward slope. Avoid any pressure points when fitting. Don’t hesitate to make your child walk with the shoes in the store Let your child wear the shoes gradually during their first hiking trips so the shoes adapt to their feet.

What size should I choose?For hiking, try taking one shoe size up from your usual size to ensure optimum comfort when going downhill and to prevent your toes from hitting the toe box. Tip: keep your nails short and before making your descent, check that your lacing prevents your foot from sliding towards the front of the boot.

Making waterproofing last longerWaterproofing of shoes is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. To keep your feet dry for longer, it is therefore advisable to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter that will prevent not only water from getting inside through the top, but also pebbles, sand, etc. It is advisable to use a waterproof spray several times a year. This restores the original water repellent properties and prevents staining.

Waterproofing testShoe waterproofing test: laboratory and field-tested, shoes made of a waterproof and breathable membrane ensure optimum protection from the rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. They are half immersed and then placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking: we then check that the inside of the shoes remains perfectly dry.

3 levels of waterproofingDuring the waterproofing test, we test the waterproofing at 3 levels, i.e., 2,000 flexes (about 2 hours of walking), 4,000 flexes (about 4 hours of walking) and 8,000 flexes (about 8 hours of walking). The Crossrock children's shoe is waterproof for 4000 flexes.
