The cut and seams were designed to prevent friction and to keep you as comfortable as possible while in a riding position. For example, the jersey is long enough in the back to keep your entire back covered, even when leaning over your handlebar.

And finally, puncture repair spray so you can finish your ride without having to fiddle with repair tools.
